    Regional Evaluation Centres

Regional Evaluation Centres (RECs) are independent, hospital-based facilities approved by the WSIB to provide workers with soft-tissue injuries quick access to Multidisciplinary Health Care (MDHC) Assessments performed by a physician specialist and either a chiropractor or physiotherapist.

MDHC Assessments assist the treating health professional with assessing workers who are not recovering or responding to treatment as expected and, as a result, are delayed in return to work. MDHC Assessments can clarify diagnosis, outline a suggested treatment plan and provide a prognosis for recovery.

The goals of the clinical assessment are to:
    • clarify diagnosis and/or prognosis
    • recommend further treatment interventions including duration, frequency and expected outcomes
    • identify any medical and return to work restrictions to support a safe return to work.
The REC will send a copy of the assessment appointment letter and assessment reports to the worker and the WSIB.

Treating health professionals can get more information about Regional Evaluation Centres by calling our Health Professional Access Line at 1-800-569-7919 or (416) 344-4526.
