    Service Scope
    Assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for burn patients.

    Referral Criteria

    General Referral Criteria
    While each specialty program has specific referral criteria, they all share some general criteria for referral. Refer when:
    • There is a need to clarify a diagnosis;
    • Prognosis, level of impairment, or appropriate treatment is unclear;
    • The injured worker has not returned to work after normal healing times;
    • Divergent medical opinions exist.
    With general referral guidelines in mind, refer patients to this clinic in the following circumstances:

    • Patient has sustained a new significant burn injury.
    • Further surgical intervention is being contemplated.
    • An old burn injury is causing significant and ongoing limitations.
    • Patient experiences ongoing issues related to scarring.
    • Patient experiences persistent psychological or psychosocial issues related to the injury (e.g. body image, relationships, coping skills and stress management.)
