Referral Criteria
General Referral Criteria
While each specialty program has specific referral criteria, they all share some general criteria for referral. Refer when:
- There is a need to clarify a diagnosis;
- Prognosis, level of impairment, or appropriate treatment is unclear;
- The injured worker has not returned to work after normal healing times;
- Divergent medical opinions exist.
With general referral guidelines in mind, refer patients to this clinic in the following circumstances:
- Patient has sustained a new significant burn injury.
- Further surgical intervention is being contemplated.
- An old burn injury is causing significant and ongoing limitations.
- Patient experiences ongoing issues related to scarring.
- Patient experiences persistent psychological or psychosocial issues related to the injury (e.g. body image, relationships, coping skills and stress management.)
