    Pain Management Program Information

The Functional Restoration Program provides evidence-based interventions to injured workers who are experiencing disabling pain that impacts significantly on their daily life, resulting in a disruption of their functioning in their occupational, family, leisure, social, and self-care roles.

    Program Highlights:
    • Interdisciplinary assessment is completed to identify motivation and readiness to participate in a multi-week treatment program
    • Each treatment is composed of nine health care professionals who are experts in pain management.
    • Our evidence-based treatment incorporates a cognitive behavioural approach
    • Treatment is day-long and is a combination of group and individual sessions, which take place in our facility, and also at the workers’ work sites.
    • Our program is goal focused and workers are expected and assisted to meet their individual and work related goals.
    • Our communication with you is consistent through reports and telephone calls.
Guide for Assessing if a Person is at Risk for Chronic Pain Disability

Within 4 months of a workplace injury your worker reports or demonstrates:
    1. High pain intensity and multiple pain sites
    2. Functional disability and pain behaviors.
    3. Emotional variables (depression, anger, anxiety, etc.)
    4. Job dissatisfaction or the perception of a difficult job.
    5. Not having modified work available.
    6. Having a physically demanding job.
    7. Having previous occurrences and prolonged duration of pain disability (i.e. previous claims).
*Predictive strength correlated with number of identified risk factors in scientific literature.

Please identify the risk factors early (within 4 months if possible).
By identifying and targeting these high-risk workers at an earlier stage, you can allocate treatment resources to those most likely to benefit before the development of the psychosocial and long-term disability that are characteristic of chronic pain disorder.

Exclusion Criteria to the Functional Restoration Program:
    1. Ongoing unresolved medical issues or awaiting further investigations,
    2. Significant psychological issues,
    3. Substance abuse.
Treatment in the Functional Restoration Program is provided through a multi-social, cognitive behavioral, functional restoration program that provides an opportunity for injured workers to learn scientifically proven pain coping techniques in a supportive, goal-oriented atmosphere. The program strives to provide objective and well-balanced advice to assist the worker, and the employer. Pain problems, barriers to recovery, and providing recommendations on functional abilities and facilitating successful vocational outcomes.
