The Ontario Occupational Health Services Network (OOHSN)
The Ontario Occupational Health Services Network (OOHSN) helps primary health care providers recognize and treat occupational disease, identify risk factors and provide occupational health information to the community. The Network is promoting early recognition and treatment of occupational illness through best practices, such as the routine screening for work exposures as part of periodic health exams and talking to patients about their work. Earlier recognition with some patients helps identify risk factors for other patients in the community or similar working conditions, thus presenting opportunities for occupational health promotion, including patient and public education. In this way, primary health care assists with the prevention of occupational disease.

The OOHSN plays a significant role in bringing together health care and occupational health organizations, centres of expertise and the community to build an effective network for the prevention, early recognition, assessment and treatment of occupational disease.

Through the network, employers and workers are provided with enhanced occupational health information and resources to deal with their specific issues. With the early recognition of occupational disease, expert resources and better-informed health care community, the workplace can better deal with the complex issue of occupational disease.

Program for Exposure Incident Reporting (PEIR)
The Program for Exposure Incident Reporting (PEIR) is a voluntary reporting program that gives employers and workers the opportunity to report an unplanned exposure incident resulting from a leak, spill, escape, explosion or direct physical contact.

PEIR enables employers and workers to inform the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board of an exposure incident while the information is readily available, in case a worker becomes ill in the future.

More information is available from the PEIR Brochure (357k, pdf).
