    Young Worker Awareness Safety Campaign 2000

    This year’s Young Worker Awareness advertising campaign focuses on three young
    men: David Ellis, Steve Mace, and Matt Sagan.

    Answer the following questions to see if you have the information to protect yourself and the ones you love!
    • Name your three basic rights when it comes to workplace health and safety. (You have the right to know about workplace hazards; participate in workplace health and safety; Refuse unsafe work.)
    • True or False: Young workers have faster reflexes, so they are less likely to be hurt on the job. (False.)
    • True or False: Your boss can fire you for refusing to perform unsafe work. (False.)

    David, just 18, died February 1999 on his second day at work when he became entangled in a commercial dough mixer in a bakery.

    Steve, Matt and the Ellis family have joined in this campaign to help raise awareness of workplace safety and to encourage young people to ask questions about job safety.
