One February morning in 1999, young David Ellis left for his second day of a temporary bakery job. Later, his father Rob rushed to the hospital only to learn that David wasn’t coming home – ever. Rob vowed that no other family in Ontario should have to know the grief the Ellises have endured. “There is a vulnerability in parents. We assume that our children will be safe at work.” Rob will tell you that most companies willingly enforce safety procedures. But safety in the workplace should be a priority for all businesses. Now he talks to high school students, parents, unions, small businesses, big corporations, and government. Nothing can bring David back, but Rob aims to educate, to enlighten, and to encourage prevention efforts. To employers, he says, “We trust you with our children.
