Stephen Mace goes public to help keep you safe.

He shut down a sharp-bladed shredding machine before checking on a jam-up. Somehow, the machine restarted, grabbed his sleeve and began pulling him into the shredder when a co-worker heard his screams. Steve came home minus an arm.
In Ontario, machine hazards and falls are two of the leading causes of workplace injuries. One in five workplace injuries involves machines. Three work-related amputations happen every day in our province. Eighty people are injured daily by falling at work.
It’s up to everyone to ensure equipment is well-maintained and used properly, and that workers are well-trained before they’re on the job.
“Although things are getting better, you can’t be too safe,” Steve tells other young workers. “If it doesn't feel safe, don’t do it.”
Steve makes a difference – in safety posters and TV interviews, and by volunteering with St. John Ambulance. The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board is proud to work with people like Steve Mace in making every Ontario workplace safer. Call us to find out how you can make a difference. |
