    Welcome to Transportation Sector Services

We’re here to serve you if you’re an employer in the transportation sector.

    Transportation companies include those that
    • Move goods by road transport. Many of these companies transport goods owned by others (for-hire carriers). Owner-operators who haul trailers or other equipment using their own trucks (either leased or owned) are also part of this group.
    • Warehouse products owned by others
    • Provide maintenance service for highways, bridges and tunnels
    • Provide waste management services
    • Provide postal services on a contract basis or provide courier services
    • Sell building supplies - either to other businesses or to a final consumer from a retail outlet. These would include lumberyards or warehouses as well as self-serve retail stores.
Find out your rate group or estimate your annual WSIB premiums with the WSIB Premium Estimator

Need to know your Account Manager or Customer Service Representative?
If you have less than twenty workers, contact your nearest Small Business Office.

If you have more than twenty workers, e-mail laura_pontone@wsib.on.ca your postal code and your firm number, if you know it.

Independent Operators – Knowing Who Is and Isn’t
Independent operators are not covered by WSIB insurance, but can apply for optional insurance. If you’re not sure who is an independent operator and who isn’t, download the brochure, Transportation Independent Operators (1.3m, pdf).

Information Alert about Independent Operators (126k, pdf)

Think you may be considered an Independent Operator?
Complete an Independent Operators questionnaire related to your business and fax it back to us for our decision. You and the firm hiring you must complete this questionnaire before you begin work for that employer. Questionnaires are available in Acrobat Reader format for the following:

Does your company provide interprovincial trucking and/or courier services?
You can apply to insure your employee-drivers with one premium that covers travel both in and out of Ontario. To apply, fill out the Application for Alternative Assessment Procedure for Interjurisdictional Trucking (274k, pdf).
