2001 Young Worker Awareness Campaign
Some true stories are way too short...
In 2000, 16 youths died as a result of workplace injuries. None of them had to die.
In that same year, we accepted more than 16,000 claims involving workers aged 15 to 24.
 | | How safe is your job?
They were promising young guys with part time jobs and lifetimes to look forward to. None of them had to die. Safe work practices could have prevented each of their tragedies.
Workplace safety is the right and responsibility of all in Ontario. If you think it couldn't happen to you or someone you love, just ask David's sister, Tim's brother or Sean's father. They'd give anything to see them again.

Our 2001 Young Worker Awareness Campaign features the experiences of seven safety ambassadors – Dan Kramp, Brandon Legue, Kevin Tremblay, Megan Roblin, Michael Hickman, Shirley Hickman, and Robin Kells. Their stories vividly depict the effects of workplace injury – the pain and disability; the terrible loss of a brother or a son.
By sharing their experiences, we hope people aged 15 to 24 will make workplace safety a prime concern when they are looking for a job or starting new employment.
Parents, too, can reinforce the message by asking their sons and daughters, “How safe is your job?”
Our efforts to reach young people in this campaign include radio, print, transit and movie theatre advertising.
