    Lower Extremity Program


    Services Available:
    The programs offer assessment by a therapist and orthopaedic surgeon with special expertise in the lower extremity for a wide range of work related injuries.

    If required, diagnostic studies and/or consultation with specialist in disciplines such as Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Psychology can be arranged.

    Depending on the nature of the problem, treatment and/or treatment recommendations can be made and provided to treating health care professional(s).

    Referral Criteria:
    An injured worker can be considered for referral to these programs if:
    • A work related lower extremity injury has been recognized
    • A timely and satisfactory recovery from an injury to the lower extremity has not occurred
    • An expert opinion is required on diagnoses such as
    • Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
    • If surgery is being considered especially in cases whereby there has been prior reconstructive surgery
    • Level of impairment and prognosis for an lower extremity injury
    • Functional ability evaluation and treatment
    • Unsuccessful attempts to return to work due to poor function and/or medical status
