    Neurology Specialty Program


    Service Scope
    Assessment and consultation regarding clinical management of workers with brain injury, complex neck injury or neurological impairments by a multidisciplinary team of specialists in the fields of neurosurgery, neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, neuropsychology, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Additional specialists available as appropriate.

    Referral Criteria

    General Referral Criteria
    While each specialty program has specific referral criteria, they all share some general criteria for referral. Refer when:
    • There is a need to clarify a diagnosis;
    • Prognosis, level of impairment, or appropriate treatment is unclear;
    • The injured worker has not returned to work after normal healing times;
    • Divergent medical opinions exist.
    With general referral guidelines in mind, refer patients to the Neurology Specialty Program if:

    Your patient has a brain injury, complex neck injury or an underlying neurological condition and you are in need of an assessment and clinical management recommendations regarding issues such as:
    • Clarification of diagnosis
    • Treatment recommendations
    • Prognosis
    • Restrictions
    • Re-evaluation if worker’s brain/complex neck or neurological condition is not improving or is deteriorating
